On Sunday, December 1, 2024, the Health Ayog of Mary, Queen of the Universe Church, Ranipura, organized a training programme for all the healthcare professionals of the parish. The event, titled “Crisis to Care: Essentials in Emergency and Elderly Care,” took place from 8:30 to 11:00 AM in the parish hall.
The session commenced with a short inaugural programme, with the lighting of the lamp by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr Jayaprakash DSouza, and other dignitaries including the resource person, Ms Kripanjali Tellis Nayak, Dn Avith Pais, Mr Arun Monteiro (Vice President of the Parish Parishad), Mrs Wilma DSouza (Secretary of the Parish Parishad), Mr Nevil DSouza (Coordinator of 21 Ayog), and Mrs Maria Shaila (Animator of Health Ayog).
Addressing the participants, Rev. Fr Jayaprakash DSouza said that this programme aims at bringing together the healthcare professionals of the parish so that they can work for the health and wellbeing of the parish in collaboration with the Basic Ecclesial Communities of the parish. He also commended the initiative of Health Ayog and their new venture to assist the entire parish during emergencies and in caring for the elderly.
Ms Kripanjali Tellis Nayak led an important session, providing demonstrations on how to handle emergency situations such as cardiac arrest, convulsions, choking, fainting, and snake bites. She also emphasized elderly care, presenting cognitive and conative exercises designed to make the elderly feel loved and cared for.
Rev. Fr Jayaprakash DSouza formed groups of the health professionals to visit the 18 wards of the parish during BEC meetings in order to teach the parishioners how to provide health care during emergency situations, and to teach them how to take care of the elderly in their loneliness and suffering.
Nineteen participants benefitted from this session.
Health Ayog played a crucial role in organizing this training programme. Ms Maria Shaila, the animator of Health Ayog, welcomed the dignitaries. Dr Sr Mable introduced the resource person, Ms Nileema proposed the vote of thanks, and Ms Sonia D’Souza compered the entire event.
